Compared with the chances of having all my fall syllabi ready to go by the end of August, magical syllabus elves are only slightly less plausible.

I actually finished writing my fall syllabi yesterday. One was for a new course, which was a lot of work but also fun to put together. For the courses I’ve taught before, the frustrating thing is that the semester is never the same length from one year to the next. You’d think that would be standardized–at least within the same institution–but nope. Every semester I’m either picking which books to drop or figuring out what I can add. At a certain point, the asteroid actually does start to sound like a better option!
