And why does Jane have so many more apples than Peter?  Is it an inequality in the apple distribution system or is it a structural variability in agricultural production?

  1. Because the men who built the railroads were most likely migrant workers brought in by the corporation to work the dangerous job for cheap. Since history books are written by the bourgeois that influence the scholars with funds, we hear about their accomplishments instead. Or, it’s because that brings in too many variables. Can a train travel as fast on a section of rail built by a man from China using methods and ore that are possibly vastly different from those used by the Irish laborer? Does steel from US Steel carry the same weight as efficiently? These are the real questions math students need to ask.
